That's the first time I've ever heard of it. 1. The South Pole is 9,301 feet above sea level, but 9,000 feet of that is ice. 2. When the Portuguese introduced chili peppers to Japan in the 16th century, rather than being eaten they were commonly put into socks to keep toes warm. 3. Cockroaches are so repulsed by humans that if they're touched by a human, not only do they run away, but they wash themselves. 4. In 2014, an Austrian woman's fire stove exploded when she used a piece of wood that grew around a WWII grenade that was stuck in it. 5. The $100 bill has almost surpassed the $1 bill as the most common US currency denomination in the world.

1. Take a sponge (the animal, not the bathroom accessory) and push it through a fine mesh so it is separated into single cells. These cells can stick themselves back together into a whole sponge again.
2. There are more ways to shuffle a deck of cards than there are molecules in the universe.

Creepy edition:
1. During times of drought, Aztec priests would perform rituals involving the tears of young children, believing that their sorrow would appease the rain god Tlaloc and bring rain to their parched lands.
2. The Zoroastrian religious tradition involves placing the deceased in "Towers of Silence" to be exposed to the elements and scavenging birds, such as vultures. This practice is based on the belief that the dead should not contaminate the earth or fire, which are considered sacred elements.
3. Many children experience auditory hallucinations, or "voices," as a normal part of their development. These voices often disappear as the child grows older.
4. Less than 10% of all species even have the possibility of being fossilized, and even more will never be discovered. So we only know about the existence of about 3% of all macroscopic life.
5. If given access to it, butterflies will happily drink blood.

2. Adolphe Sax, the son of instrument designers, was prone to accidents. As a kid, he fell from a 3-story height, drank acidic water he mistook for milk, swallowed a pin, fell into a frying pan, was burned in a gunpowder blast, and fell into a river. He grew up to invent the saxophone.
3. Ancient Romans added lead syrup to wine to improve color, flavor, and to prevent fermentation. The average Roman aristocrat consumed up to 250μg of lead daily. Some Roman texts implicate chronic lead poisoning in the mental deterioration of Nero, Caligula, and other Roman Emperors.
4. At least one of the victims of the Vesuvius Eruption in 79 C.E was found with a vitrified brain. In other words their brain was turned to glass due to the extreme heat.
