i haven't seen the older one
but i do know what it's about
i'm watching the new version they were showing it on PBS and other stations
anyway this relates to it
PBS showed this special about the first one
the original guy who played the doctor took a tour of the countryside and he heard why they had to change the name
he said the doctors aren't allowed to use their real names if they publish stuff and also for tv's sake....he was talking to the grandson of the writer james harriet....who said that
it's some kind of british law he said
so james harriet wasn't his real name

I used to enjoy the first series many years ago and enjoyed it. Didn't know they had made a new one - may take a look
