It’s no doubt that Vikings were some of the toughest men in history books. However, they cared about their appearance enough that makeup was a part of their everyday routine.

Yes I vaguely remember hearing that somewhere. Strange kind of thing for those macho types to do wasn't it, they must have been in touch with their feminine side as well

I had read that they wore coal around the eyes as eyeliner.
And some face paint in battle.
But not as an everyday thing,
not makeup as we know it in modern society.

Interesting! I had also heard that the iconic horn hats were NOT from the Vikings originally. Indeed: they didn't wear horned helmets in battle. Wearing horned helmets would have been a terrible idea - because the horns would give the enemy something to aim at to knock the helmet off (or, if the helmet was strapped on, something to grab hold of whilst slitting the Viking's throat!) |

Wearing horned helmets would have been a terrible idea - because the horns would give the enemy something to aim at to knock the helmet off (or, if the helmet was strapped on, something to grab hold of whilst slitting the Viking's throat!) Thank you for the confirmation! You don't see people going into battle or any kind of fight with anything that the enemy can latch onto. It's dumb lol |
